I finished reading this novel a couple months ago. It was written in the year 2000 by the author China Miéville.
Pretty good book. I don't want to give away too much in case you want to read it. The world is unique as far as fantasy goes. It has humans, but there are also cactus men, water men, bird men, insect men and robots. It also has fictitious physics. Oh, and there is a lot of body alteration (I forget the term that's used in the novel), for example a person will have goat legs, or someone will have a chainsaw as an arm, stuff like that - these are usually punishments.
And if you are looking for some new vocab words this book is packed with them. I must have highlighted almost 100 words that I had never seen.
