I finished this one about a week ago. It's a fantasy book written by Brandon Sanderson in 2010 and it's roughly 1,000 pages. I could not put this book down. The writing style is relatively simple and there were not a ton of new vocab words for me.
It has some interesting ideas. There's shard plate which is special armor that grants the wearer increased speed and strength. There are shard blades which are huge swords that form out of thin air, they take 10 heart beats to form. Shard blades can cut rock and souls but they don't cut flesh. People who have shard plate usually also have a shard blade, but sometimes someone will have only one or the other.
Then there are soul casters which are basically wizards.
Money is glass spheres that hold stormlight. Shard plate also requires these stormlight spheres.
And then there are people that can breath in stormlight, and when they do it gives them immense power and they gain the ability to alter gravity.
